Come in. A little closer. Ok, not too close because there's a global pandemic.
I have a secret – the hottest new music festival of 2020 is the Democratic National Convention. Word on the street is that Democrats got together and said, "In 2016, Trump was able to get Scott Baio, Kid Rock, and one of the titular ducks from Duck Dynasty. We can't skimp this time around." And sure, while the Democratic nomination of Joe Biden inspires the same kind of fervor as leftovers for dinner, the musical line up for this week's convention is some next level entertainment. Actually, it might be the best music festival of the year. Ignore the fact that all music festivals are canceled! A win is a win.
In recent years, it's become more and more popular for each party to pull together a line up of celebrities to come out and support the party's nomination, but this year in particular, the DNC rustled up quite a stacked line up. The best part is that they'll all be available to watch via live stream.
Kicking off Monday night's convention open, Leon Bridges and Maggie Rogers will perform starting at 9:00pm ET. On Tuesday, it's back to official political business, but there will be a speech from Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez that evening, which can be just as exciting as a concert if the topic is right.
On Wednesday, the party starts up again with Billie Eilish performing a set between speeches from Senator Elizabeth Warren and House Leader Nancy Pelosi, also during the 9 o'clock hour. In a perfect world, they'll join forces for a take on "Landslide." And then to round out the evening, Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson will also perform. Just in case we don't get that "Landslide" cover, The Chicks will be closing out the Democratic National Convention on Thursday somewhere around the 9:00pm ET hour before Biden accepts the Democratic nomination.
Considering that two of these acts have new music out and one of them is set to star in a major biopic about Aretha Franklin to be released later this year, it really does seem like this little Joe Biden party might turn out to be some of the best entertainment we've had in months. Pull out those leftovers and never forget the time that Hillary Clinton clapped as the whole arena danced the macarena at the 1996 DNC convention.
