In late April, The Batman director Matt Reeves announced that both he and Robert Pattinson would be back for another round of glowering, wandering around dark rooms, and needle-dropping Nirvana's 'Something in the Way'.

"Thank you all for your tremendous support for The Batman," Reeves told a crowd at CinemaCon. "We couldn't have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world. I'm excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter."

It's early doors yet for the sequel – in fact it might even be earlier than early doors – but we do know a little bit about where it might be headed.

Who will be in The Batman 2?

Pattinson will return as Batman, and while none of the rest of the cast have been confirmed just yet it's a safe bet that the core will be back too: Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle, Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred.

What will happen in The Batman 2?

Again there's been nothing concrete on this score, but anyone who saw The Batman was left in absolutely no doubt that the Joker will have a big role. Barry Keoghan played a very familiar-sounding chuckling psychopath who popped up right at the end of The Batman and had a chat with Paul Dano's Riddler, and you can't just drop a Joker hint and not come good on it.

Does The Batman 2 have a title?

Not yet. The big call of The Batman was to include that definite article to imply Pattinson's Bruce Wayne is the one and only, so perhaps look out for Thee Batman or Seriously Guys My Batman Is The One And Only Batman.

When will The Batman 2 be out?

No idea yet. That all depends on how busy Patto is and how quickly Reeves can get a script together, but don't expect anything before 2024 at the very earliest. Even that might be a little optimistic, as Reeves is developing a HBO spin-off for Farrell's Cobblepot.
