By Netflix has enjoyed recent documentary success with their retelling of the Fyre festival disaster, the journey of five insurgent female political candidates in the lead up to the mid-term elections in Knock Down The House, and doping scandal study Icarus, which went on to win an Academy Award.
Now, a new documentary will give insight into one of the most fascinating men alive today, with a three-part series which will decode the mind of the billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates will analyse the mind of the tech visionary and philanthropist, looking at the unique way in which he processes information and how he applied this to business, and later to attempting to solve global crises like climate change and disease.
Having been followed by a Netflix camera on and off for several years, the documentary will give unrivalled access and insight into Gates, from fun facts like his favourite food (hamburgers), to more cerebral matters, like his biggest fear (that his brain will stop working).
This closeness to Gates means you're unlikely to see a huge amount of objectivity about his life's work, but the series does offer an insight into what rivals thought of him, with a man saying that "he'll do whatever he can to capture more of the market", and footage of a stranger throwing a pie in his face (perhaps early inspiration for Milkshake-gate of 2019.)
"He makes a framework in his mind, and then he starts slotting in the information," explains his wife Melinda, with whom he runs his charitable foundation. This computer-esque way of processing information initially meant Gates worked night and day to ensure Microsoft stayed ahead.
However, in the impressive second act of his career, when he shifted his focus to solving global humanitarian issues, it sees him use the same fervour, curiosity and analysis to help people.
With Trump still inhabiting the White House, and Facebook and Twitter founders Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey credited in part with putting him there, resentment toward billionaires and tech moguls has peaked in recent years.
Exploring the disappointment that Gates' mother felt at him dedicating his life to his career to the detriment of his community and family, there is a sense that he feels his real achievement was turning away from the greed and excess that swallows many of the extraordinarily wealthy and powerful.
Inside Bill's Brain looks like it might restore your faith there's still someone at the top looking out for the rest of the world.
