Effectively the beginning of the end for the MCU's Phase 3, Kevin Feige has been teasing the rise of Thanos since way back in the first Avengers movie.

Now, on the cusp of the two-part Infinity War and (untitled) Avengers 4, all the pieces are in place for the biggest superhero movie ever – and there's a teaser poster to prove it:

Already tipped to be one of the most expensive movies ever made — partly thanks to Robert Downey's Jr's impressive salary — hopes are high that Infinity War can avoid the mistakes of DC's big ensemble Justice League.

However, featuring an all-star cast and the likes of the Chris trifecta (Evans, Hemsworth, Pratt), surely Infinity War is just too big to fail?

With rumours of scenes that contain up to 67 heroes, it doesn't sound like Disney will be skimping on anything when Josh Brolin slips on the Infinity Gauntlet.

By the time the Russo Brothers' comic book spectacular hits cinemas on May 4, 2018, there will have been 18 MCU movies that have come before it.

Luckily, the world's highest-grossing franchise has managed to avoid any major box office blunders, and it is doubtful that the MCU will start its losing streak with Infinity War.

And after that? Kevin Feige has already sketched plans for a further 20 movies once the current slate ends in 2019, so there should more than enough heroes and villains to tackle once Thanos in inevitably toppled.

Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 will launch in spring 2018, with Part 2 following in 2019.
