Quentin Tarantino will bring two of the most famous members of his A-list acting ensemble together in his next movie.

The Academy Award-winning filmmaker has cast fellow Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio and Hollywood legend Brad Pitt in leading roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

The film is set in 1969, and centres around the real-life murder of Sharon Tate and her friends in the Hollywood Hills by members of Charles Manson's murderous cult.

Here's the official synopsis: "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood. The two lead characters are Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), former star of a western TV series, and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don't recognise anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor... Sharon Tate."

As mentioned, the project reunites Tarantino with his Django Unchained collaborator Leonardo DiCaprio as well as True Romance and Django Unchained's Brad Pitt.

"I've been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was seven years old," the filmmaker said.

"I'm very excited to tell this story of an LA and a Hollywood that don't exist anymore. And I couldn't be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff."

Tarantino is also developing the next Star Trek movie, which he's expected to direct once he wraps work on this upcoming period drama.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood will be arriving in US cinemas on 9 August 2019. A UK release date hasn't yet been announced.
