Ex Machina star Dohmnall Gleeson is in final talks to join Irish crime film The Kitchen¸ according to The Hollywood Reporter.

If his role is confirmed, Gleeson will be joining in the crime series alongside Mellissa McCartney (Bridesmaids), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) in what will be the directing debut for Straight Outta Compton writer Andrea Berloff.

The film, which is an adaptation of the DC’s 2014 graphic novel series of the same name, follows the wives of a group of Irish mobsters who, after their husbands are sent to prison, take over the business to become more ruthless criminals.

A departure from his role in last year’s Peter Rabbit, the Irish actor is set to play Gabriel O’Malley – a Vietnam veteran-come-assassin who worked for neighbourhood gangsters before skipping town.

With the gangsters locked away, he returns to the town with a settle to score. Gleeson has also been cast in Focus’ upcoming drama The Little Stranger, which is still in pre-production, but has recently told Metro he has “no idea” whether he will return as the villainous General Hux in Star Wars: Episode IX, next December.

The Kitchen is set to start production next month and is expected to reach cinemas on 20 September 2019.
