2017 has had its ups and downs, but one thing to be thankful for is the release of a plethora of stellar films from the likes of indie hits like Call Me By Your Name and The Florida Project to big studio surprises in the form of Thor: Ragnarok and War For The Planet Of The Apes.

It's slightly disheartening, then, to learn that according to Forbes' annual round-up, the actor who pulled in the most money in 2017 isn't an indie-darling nor an envelope-pushing actor's actor, but solid, dependable Vin Diesel.

Co-star Dwayne Johnson comes in at second place, while Gal Gadot is a welcome addition in third with $1.4 billion from Wonder Woman and the underperforming Justice League.

Elsewhere, Emma Watson takes fourth place after savvy negotiating skills on Disney's live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, while homegrown sci-fi franchise stalwarts Daisy Ridley and John Boyega also feature.
