Bad news, Indy fans: you'll be waiting a lot longer to see Indiana Jones 5 on the big screen.

Just a month after dating Harrison Ford's return to the franchise for 19 July, 2019, Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed it's being delayed nearly a year for a new 10 July, 2020 release date in the US.

It's safe to assume that the UK release date will be in July 2020 as well, but Disney has yet to confirm the exact timing of Indiana Jones 5's arrival in Europe.

The delay of Indiana Jones 5 into 2010 means that it will have been 12 years since 2008's critically derided Kingdom of the Crystal Skull hit cinemas worldwide. Time will tell if that was long enough to wash the bad taste out of fans' mouths.

Harrison Ford is, of course, returning to his iconic role as the globetrotting archaeologist to work once again with director Steven Spielberg. It was this combination that brought us the iconic Raiders of the Lost Ark (and, admittedly, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull much later on too).

One huge difference this time around is that series creator George Lucas likely won't be involved in Indiana Jones 5, having sold off his Lucasfilm production company to Disney after the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Instead, Disney is handing over writing duties to David Koepp, whose impressive writing credits include Jurassic Park, Spider-Man and Mission: Impossible. (He also worked on, gulp, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but let's consider that an aberration).
