Luc Besson's 2014 science-fiction action film Lucy grossed a lot of money from a modest budget, while Luc Besson's 2017 science-fiction action film Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets grossed less money from a much bigger budget.

That's why the filmmaker's production company, EuropaCorp, is looking to switch up its strategy to focus on more modestly priced features (via Variety).

Unsurprisingly, one of those films is a follow-up to the successful Scarlet Johansson vehicle, and they are so keen to get it off the ground that they've already got a script in place.

In general, the company are looking to make more films in the proven science-fiction genre, with Besson's next film being another female-led action film that begins shooting next month. It's important to note this as-yet-untitled film isn't Lucy 2, it's an original project.

Although it looks like Valerian won't be getting a sequel any time... ever. Luc Besson has already written a second and a third one – but he admits he has mostly written them just for the fun of it.
