The role of James Bond is likely to be the most career-defining character an actor will ever play. It's a massive undertaking, to say the least.

And while the Bond producers continue their search, one potential contender, Jamie Dornan, has been thinking out loud about how starring in consecutive films of the same genre might not be for him, actually.

Speaking with Radio Times about his newest spy thriller, Heart Of Stone, he said: “I love doing it, but you know – I've said this sort of thing before – I wouldn't want to do that movie after movie after movie.

“I had a great time doing it, and I love exploring that. But that's because I sort of feel the whole point of being an actor is that you do get to explore all these different worlds and genres and play in those worlds.

“I've been lucky so far, in my career, I have had a pretty varied career in terms of the genres I have ended up in from very, you know, heavy drama to very silly comedy and sort of everything in between…But I wouldn't ever want to be an action star. I have no interest in that.”

He went even further with Digital Spy, pondering if there was even a place for male-fronted spy thrillers anymore, as Heart Of Stone sees Gal Gadot in the lead role. He added: “[Heart of Stone is different because] it gives those missions to a woman. It's much more where we need to be headed at the moment, after decades and decades of male-drive spy thrillers. And I think it's time to mix that up, not just have the females in those movies just be the sort of vacuous eye-candy, that sometimes happens.”

Still, even if he is removing himself from the Bond race, there are still plenty of other actors thirsty to jump into 007’s tux. You can find our long list here.
