If there’s the one thing the human race will guarantee never to tire of, it’s intergalactic escapades. But it’s not so often a film or TV show covers what happens when a cosmonaut returns to earth – and what the psychological effect of being thousands of hundreds of miles out in the dark nothingness of the universe, looking out into our solar system, has on them.

In Apple TV+’s Constellation, for the astronaut Jo – played by Noomi Rapace – it’s all pretty terrifying. As evidenced from the trailer of the upcoming psychological thriller, something gnarly happened up on that space station, and whatever it was appears to have somehow followed Jo back home. Check out the creepy-as-hell teaser above.

Here’s what to expect and how to watch it for free.

What’s the big idea?

The series is created by McMafia and The War Of The Worlds writer Peter Harness and stars Rapace as a space explorer who suffers a disaster while out in space. When she returns home, she finds that key parts of her life are missing. Oh, and that she can now play Rachmaninoff at concert level on the piano, so it’s not all bad.

The official synopsis states: “The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman's desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost.”

Rapace told TVLine that viewers were in for a mind-bending story in which they’d have to work out themselves what exactly is going on: “I love movies and series that allow me as an audience to stay alert and to keep on thinking, where the answers are not force-fed into my mouth. When I go off and watch something and it’s like, “What was that? What did that mean?,’ it’s a great little mind game.”

How to watch Constellation for free

The first three episodes will stream on Apple TV+ from 21 February, then each remaining episode will air weekly on Wednesdays until the finale.

The last episode streams on March 27. If you can hold out until then, Apple TV+ are still running their seven-day free trial to the service, so there’s a whole week to binge the entire season. Alternatively, you can use the free trial to see if it's your cup of tea before you commit.

But if you’re due for an upgrade on an iPhone or any other Apple device – or have bought one in the last 90 days – you’ll get free Apple TV+ for three months, which should take you well beyond the finale, giving you time to enjoy other recent great new Apple TV+ shows and films like Slow Horses season 3, Masters Of The Air and Platonic.
