Make no mistake: The Crowded Room, Apple TV+'s upcoming psychological thriller, is set to be this summer's darkest drama. Starring Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried, the 10-part series is largely based on a true story, and the screenplay has been written by Academy Award winner Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind).

The Spider-Man actor takes on the role of Danny Sullivan, a man who finds himself arrested after a shooting in New York City in 1979. It’s then up to investigator Rya Goodwin (Seyfried) to ascertain what role, if any, Sullivan had in it all, but the deeper she gets into the storyand Sullivan’s history, the more fractured and disturbing it becomes.

The cast also includes the likes of Emmy Rossum, Sasha Lane, Will Chase, Lior Raz, Jason Isaacs and Christopher Abbot.

How to watch The Crowded Room for free

The show starts streaming on 9 June, and as is customary with many Apple TV+ series now, the first three episodes are released on the day, and further episodes are released on a weekly basis. The last one streams on 28 July, so if you can hold out until then, Apple TV+ are still running their free seven-day trial to the service, giving you a whole week to binge the entire season. Alternatively, you can use the free trial to see if it's your cup of tea before you commit to a full subscription, which starts from £6.99 a month.

But if you’re due for an upgrade on an iPhone or any other Apple device – or have bought one in the last 90 days since the beginning of May – you’ll get free Apple TV+ for three months, which should just about take you right up to the grand finale.

The Crowded Room streams on Apple TV+ from June 9.
