Knives Out 2, aka Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, has finally confirmed its Netflix release date – and it's an early Christmas treat for us all.

The eagerly-awaited sequel will arrive on Netflix on Friday, December 23, with the exciting news marked with the release of the first image from the sequel which sees Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) interrogating the latest batch of suspects.

Along with the release date and image, we've also got the official plot details for the sequel. It revolves around tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), who has invited some of his nearest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island (as you do).

However, it soon becomes clear that not all is perfect in paradise and when somebody turns up dead (because it is a murder-mystery, after all), it's up to Blanc to peel back the layers of intrigue.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery follows up the first movie's star-studded cast with another impressive cast. Alongside Craig and Norton, the sequel stars Kathryn Hahn, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Leslie Odom Jr and Madelyn Cline.

"You try and invite people that you like. But the reality is you never know. At the end of the day, just trying to get the best actors in each part, the actors that are most right for each individual part," writer/director Rian Johnson told Netflix.

"So, you also just throw the dice and hold your breath. Luckily, we got a great group that really meshed."

Johnson also teased that you'll get to know Benoit Blanc a "little bit better" in the sequel after he acted as "the threat" to Marta (Ana de Armas) in the first movie.

"Blanc was always outside of the sphere of our protagonist and was a little bit more of an enigma in the first movie. Whereas, in this one, Blanc gets an invitation to come to this murder mystery on this island," he added.

If you absolutely cannot wait until December 23 to see Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the sequel will be released in select cinemas ahead of its Netflix release, usually a couple of weeks before.

It will also be receiving public screenings at the same time as its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 16.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will be released on Netflix on December 23.
