While Daniel Craig is most certainly not returning to James Bond after his character died in No Time to Die, one actor who featured in that latest 007 flick has discussed a potential return to the franchise.
In an interview with Deadline at the Telluride Film Festival, Léa Seydoux spoke about her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann in the two most recent Bond movies, Spectre and No Time to Die. In the latter movie, Swann was revealed to be the mother of Bond's daughter. Craig's Bond sacrifices himself at the end of the movie to ensure Swann and his daughter survived.
So while Bond met his explosive end, Swann survived. This fact leads Seydoux to wonder if she'll return to the franchise at some point down the line.
"After all, I’m not dead. It was James who died, not Madeleine. So, who knows? Maybe I’ll be back," Seydoux said.
"This is like fake news, right? But if we’re serious for a moment, Madeleine drives away with her daughter right at the end because James has saved them. There’ll be a new Bond because Daniel’s Bond died but who’s to say that Madeleine won’t be back?"
There is a long way to go before Seydoux would even enter discussions with producer Barbara Broccoli about a potential Bond return. Firstly, a new Bond has to be cast. Superman actor Henry Cavill and Bridgerton alum Regé-Jean Page are the bookies' favourites to take over the role, while Tom Hardy, James Norton and Idris Elba have also long been touted as potential replacements for Craig.
However, they are a long way off from any announcement and therefore an even longer way off from deciding any details about the next Bond movie. Still, it's fun for Seydoux to think about the possibilities, she says.
"I haven’t spoken to Barbara about whether or not Madeleine would make an appearance in a future Bond film, a lot has to happen before that stage is reached. This is just idle speculation as we talk on the top of a mountain."
