The sixth and final season of Peaky Blinders may have dropped back in 2022, but the story isn't over for Tommy Shelby and his Birmingham crew. Creator Steven Knight made the rare decision to conclude the show's run on television with a movie—and then proceeded to fade into the shadows without a peep of new information. Now, he's finally updating fans about the long-awaited finale.

"I’m just working on the final bits of it at the moment," Knight told Radio Times. "I just sit down at the keyboard and start. It’s a bit like having a dream, for me. You sit there and all this stuff comes, and then you read it back and think, ‘That’s pretty good – but where did it come from?’ The plan is to start shooting that in the middle of next year." The interview took place back in December, so when Knight says "middle of next year," he means summer 2024.

Details for the film are still under wraps, but there's still clearly a lot more Peaky Blinders on the way. Here's everything we know about the Peaky Blinders movie.

What's Next for Peaky Blinders?

Season Seven was supposed to complete Tommy Shelby’s arc, including the passing of his daughter and his difficult transition of creating a new moral worldview. Now, it sounds like those conflicts will take place on the big screen—maybe even with some big-budget action. "The biggest difference between a film and TV series is the budget," Knight said in the Radio Times interview. "When you do stuff for TV, you often have to ask people to imagine it. But with a film, you can really do it. You can blow stuff up. Will Tommy be giving James Bond a run for his money? Maybe. There are parallels. We always thought of Peaky as very cinematic, so we are finally finding a screen big enough for what we want to do."

Who Will Appear in the Film?

We don't know much about who will be included in the film's cast, but Knight seemingly confirmed that Cillian Murphy will be returning as Tommy, as well as Paul Anderson as his brother, Arthur. When asked whether the two actors would be returning to the Peaky Blinders universe, Knight told Digital Spy, "It's impossible to say yet. But the film—yes."

Could There Be More Peaky Blinders After the Movie?

Absolutely. Knight confirmed that he has two spinoffs in development at Netflix, including one "set in Boston during the middle of the 20th century, a couple decades after the original Peaky Blinders." As for the other one? "[It] would focus on Polly, the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan." Sounds like it may be a longer wait before the Shelby gang is back on your screen, but there certainly won't be any shortage of Peaky Blinders action in the coming years.
