For all the ceremony, glitz and the glamour, award ceremonies are not a serious business, and it pays to crack a joke or two. Case in point: after Succession’s Kieran Culkin took a pop at his fellow nominee, Pedro Pascal, in his Golden Globe winning speech last week (“Suck it, Pedro!”), Pascal continued the bit at last night's Emmy awards.

“Before we get into the nominees for best supporting actor in a drama series,” he said. “I'd like to take just a second and make this about me. A lot of people have been asking about my arm; it's actually my shoulder. And I think tonight is a perfect time to tell everyone… that Kieran Culkin beat the shit out of me.”

A cut to a deadpan Culkin was the perfect punchline, but Pascal couldn’t hold the seriousness and corpsed, giggling after his big line. “Here are the nominees for the best supporting actor…”

“Pedro Pascal and Kieran Culkin are the only ones that actually funny among all those award shows we’ve seen” one social media users commented, while another suggested that the show bosses should “make them host this shit”, which actually isn’t a bad idea at all.

Pascal was previously asked on the red carpet for the Golden Globes about his arm – sorry, shoulder – and he told the reporter that “I fell”, before adding: “Be careful. It can happen to anybody.”

With the Baftas just a few weeks away, something tells us this fake beef isn’t over just yet.
