Back in October, Adnan Syed's lawyers requested bail to allow him to walk free for the first time in 15 years. However, Baltimore City's Circuit Court denied Syed's motion for Release Appending Appeal.

Back in 2000, Syed was convicted for murdering his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee; however, the massively popular podcast Serial broke the case open. While awaiting a new trial, Syed's lawyers requested bail for their client, who has been in prison since February 28th, 1999.

The post-conviction relief hearing in June overturned Syed's conviction, granting him a new trial. However, Judge Martin Welch denied Syed's bail, citing "outstanding appellate issues" and "evidence likely to be presented at a new trial."

Said Syed's lawyers in a statement:

"The State is attempting to appeal Judge Welch's Order vacating Syed's conviction and granting a new trial; multiple applications for leave to appeal are pending."
