Robert Pattinson is getting another crack at glowering in a vulcanised rubber superhero suit, as plans for The Batman Part II have just been announced.

Pattinson previously took on the role as the caped crusader for 2022’s The Batman, and thanks in part to pulling in a neat $770 million at the box office, he’s now managed to secure a second outing for his take on the classic DC Comics character. Here’s hoping he gives that boiled potatoes and Himalayan pink salt diet a miss this time.

Little more than the film’s name – The Batman Part II – was revealed, but we do have a date to stick in the diary for the next Gotham city-based adventures, and that date is 3 October, 2025.

Alongside Pattinson, Matt Reeves, who directed the first film, will also be returning, and he confirmed the news on Twitter, tweeting three little bat emojis and adding: “Epic. Crime. Saga.”, which is probably as much of plot reveal as we can expect at this early stage:

The sequel to The Batman was revealed as part of a raft of new DC Comics releases, as announced by DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran at a launch event on 31 January.

Superman: Legacy is also due for a 2025 release, while plans for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Booster Gold and Swamp Thing were also touted.

As reported by Variety, Gunn and Safran also explained that they are branching out from DC Universe to another, DC Elsewhere, and that “any DC film or television series that is set outside of the main DC Universe will get the “DC Elseworlds” tag, exactly how DC Comics functions.”

So while The Batman(s) will be part of DC Elsewhere, Gunn confirmed that they will be casting a new Batman for the DC Universe, as there are plans for a Batman and Robin movie based on The Brave and The Bold comics (which won’t be Pattinson playing Batman) and there are also plans for a Reeves-directed spin-off series of Colin Farrell’s penguin.

If that all sounds a little confusing: don’t worry, the pros have it covered. According to Variety, “Reeves said earlier this month that he was meeting with Gunn to ensure that his “BatVerse” and the larger DC Universe would “support each other” and not “crash” together in terms of storylines.”

Anyway, it’s probably time for Pattinson to pick up the batsuit from the dry cleaners.
