What has been the most objectionable part of The Idol so far? The violent sex scenes? The excruciating dirty talk? Perhaps that Jeffrey Epstein comment? It's debatable. But the one thing that many viewers can agree on is that Tedros Tedros, the skeezy club owner who has ensnared pop star Jocelyn into an abusive relationship, should perish – preferably by Jocelyn’s own hand.

There are just two episodes of the five-part series left, which is not a lot of time to wrap things up. Just to recap; Tedros (played by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye) is, it turns out, also a cult leader who has targeted the fragile and traumatised Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp), who lost her abusive mum to cancer just a few weeks prior, and is on the verge of losing her pop career too. In yet another sex scene in episode three, we see him beat Jocelyn with a hairbrush (that her mother also used to hit her with) to give her “direction” in her musical ambitions.

While Tedros is firmly en route to becoming one of the most hated villains in television history, there are a few signs that Jocelyn will begin fighting back. Walking out on him right before the end of a sex session in a designer shop’s dressing room, and then laughing about him having to pleasure himself, suggests that a rebellion is afoot. Can she extricate herself from Tedros' clutches, and will murder be the only route out?

It’s a theory that’s got people talking over on The Idol’s Reddit group. “This show better end with Jocelyn killing Tedros,” one person opened with, garnering 252 upvotes, as other people piled on with more ideas.

Another person added: “I was literally thinking after Tedros slapped Andreas [the chef] that the only way this show can be redeemed is if Jocelyn ends up killing him. He’s trying to take over her whole life, it might be the only way she can save herself.” Another commenter noted: “If you remember in episode one: Jocelyn and Leia were watching a movie and the woman said either ‘she killed him’ or ‘I ended up killing him’ it foreshadowed the outcome of this show! I’m excited to see how it plays out! Could be a physical sense or emotional/ social murder.”

A different user pointed out that you need only look at The Weeknd’s previous work to predict what may happen: “It will, the same thing happens in Basic Instinct or whatever he derived the plot from, plus Abel kills his own character in every visual he makes. All his music videos etc.”

Finally, one user suggested that a shock death was a chance for the controversial series to redeem itself: “It would honestly relieve this show for all its sins. Like genuinely would be the best perfect ending.”

The Idol continues weekly on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
