This story contains spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder.
Let's get this out of the way. Sure, Chris Hemsworth has most likely been bulking up biyearly since he started filming Thor over a decade ago. He's one of the last remaining member of the OG Avengers, too—i.e. the crew that fought his fictional brother, Loki, in 2012's The Avengers. But the man isn't pulling a Tom Holland and flirting with taking a break from his superhero alter ego, and/or acting entirely.
"I’ll come back for more and more until someone kicks me off the stage, you know," Hemsworth told Extra in June. "My whole career has been based around me playing this character and to come back again and again and play it with different directors and different casts has been an absolute joy." Sounds like a guy who is down for Thor 37: The Battle For Olympus. That said, given how Thor: Love and Thunder—which debuts in cinemas this weekend—ends, we should discuss whether or not we'll see a fifth solo Thor adventure sooner than later. Or, if we'll glimpse the God of Thunder in another Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure entirely.
Love and Thunder ends with Thor and Jane Foster/The Mighty Thor managing to convince Gorr the God Butcher to do the right thing: wish that his daughter would come back to life, instead of killing all of the deities in the universe. Foster passes away—more on her later—leaving Thor as the de facto foster father of Gorr's daughter, whom he refers to as love. Hey, she has superpowers, too! Who would've thought. We're left to think that Thor and Love live happily ever after, bashing baddies in New Asgard, side by side. Sweet, right? You know that Marvel won't let Thor have peace and quiet for long.
In Love and Thunder's post-credits scene, we see the very-much-offended Zeus send his son, Hercules (played by Ted Lasso's Brett Goldstein) to battle Thor. The setup is fairly clear: the Love and Thunder's sequel will be a Thorified Clash of the Titans, where we see a full-scale battle between the gods. Elsewhere in the MCU, we know that Jonathan Majors's Kang the Conquerer (and his various variants) are lurking around, ready to crush the Avengers. Plus, Disney+'s Secret Wars is teasing another Avengers-esque gathering of our favorite heroes. We'll see Hemsworth's Thor again, without a doubt. The credits tell us as much. It's just a matter of whether we'll see him first in the next Avengers film, Secret Wars, or Thor 5. Hey, we might even see Love join the Young Avengers, which Marvel seems to be setting up.
As for Thor's buddies, lovers, and acquaintances? Well, you can bet that all of the surviving heroes—mainly, Valkyrie and Korg—will return to the superhero playground someday. It's been a hot minute since Hemsworth shared the screen with Tom Hiddleston, though it's unlikely we'll see the God of Thunder in Loki Season Two. Marvel is probably saving the big reunion for the big battle against Kang. As for Natalie Portman's Jane Foster? The end credits scene does show that she's out there, somewhere in the paradise of Valhalla. You can't put it past Marvel to bring her back from the dead, if only for another go-round as The Mighty Thor. We'd be just fine with that.
