House of Cards has extended its production break on season six in the wake of the sexual harassment allegations made against Kevin Spacey.

A letter sent to the Netflix show's cast and crew from producers Media Rights Capital confirmed that the current hiatus, which started at the end of October, has been extended for an additional two weeks "with the hope of resuming production soon".

The producers also said discussions about the show's return are continuing with Netflix, and that the crew will be paid for an additional two weeks through December 8.

Spacey has played Frank Underwood in the Netflix series opposite Robin Wright's Claire Underwood since its first season in 2013.

Last month, several allegations of sexual harassment were made against Spacey.

The allegations first surfaced when Star Trek: Discovery star Anthony Rapp claimed Spacey made a sexual advance on him when he was just 14 years old and Spacey was 26.

In response, Netflix released a statement saying they would no longer work with Spacey on House of Cards.

Other allegations of sexual harassment have surfaced since, with over 20 being reported to The Old Vic Theatre in London, where Spacey was artistic director between 2004 and 2015

As well as being suspended from House of Cards, Spacey has also been removed from Ridley Scott's All the Money in the World, which had finished shooting, and replaced by Christopher Plummer.

His planned Netflix biopic of Gore Vidal, due for release in 2018, has also been canned.
