Sorry to put a downer on your day but it's looking very unlikely that we are ever going to get a sequel to Will Ferrell and John C Reilly's Step Brothers.

And it's not just any old unnamed source who knows a guy whose brother's ex-girlfriend's uncle's third cousin twice removed once did a bit of work experience on a film set that's saying this, but Will Ferrell himself.

Speaking to Rolling Stone alongside Adam McKay (the Step Brothers director), Ferrell said: "You have to resist the temptation.

"It's just tough because the things everyone wants you to do sequels of are special because there's not a sequel of it.

"I guess we'll see, but as of now there are no plans. We just don't want to be doing sequels of everything."

He has a point, seeing as Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (from the Ferrell/McKay team) was, let's be honest, a bit naff.

"I think we personally feel great about what we did with Anchorman 2," Ferrell continued.

"And I think there are actually some people who like it more than the original. But then you always get that little bit of people saying, 'Awww, why'd they have to do that?'"

Okay, we feel a bit bad now.

One sequel Will Ferrell has signed up for is Daddy's Home 2, which will star Transformers' Mark Wahlberg as well.

He's also starring in a film about Uber, with Adam McKay joining him.
