Cast your mind back to those old CRT televisions that took up half of the house, while delivering a fuzzy picture from a thick, glare-prone screen. Okay, now imagine the exact opposite of one of those.

There's a name for what you're now visualising. It's called an OLED TV. This is a truly cutting-edge device, with a paper-thin display, capable of recreating crystal-clear images in brilliant colour and perfect black and whites from almost any viewing angle imaginable.

Of course, this groundbreaking display technology will change the way you watch movies, play video games and sprawl out on the sofa forever. However, its clever design and sleek, stylish appearance mean it’ll also change the way you think of a TV from an aesthetic standpoint.

An OLED TV is as handsome as it is technologically advanced. Here we examine four key features that make it the perfect addition to any stylish pad.

Streamline Your Living Space With Thinovative Design

A portmanteau of ‘thin’ and ‘innovative', just in case you hadn’t figured it out, LG’s Thinovative Design means its OLED TV screens can be less than 1mm thick. It’s outrageously thin, really... but in a good way.

Think about it. This breakthrough in display technology means your living room set-up need no longer be dictated by a gargantuan box spoiling the clean lines and layout of an otherwise streamlined space. Instead, an OLED TV seamlessly blends in with your interior, elevating and improving the room, rather than simply taking up space in it.

In short, LG’s Thinovative Design makes an OLED more than just a TV; it makes it a fully integrated part of your home.

Emissive Colour Brings The Big Screen To Your Lounge

A screen that thin must mean some sort of a compromise in picture quality, right? Well, actually, no. In fact, the opposite is true.

Unlike a bulky LCD TV, OLED boasts something called 'self-emissive technology'. This means that each individual pixel in an LG OLED display emits its own light and colour independently. In conventional TVs, light produced by the backlight must travel through many different layers – polarisers, colour filters and more – in order to create images. Naturally, this results in a less-than-perfect picture, due to washed-out colours, halo effect, and poor viewing-angle performance.

OLED does away with this overly complex system and its clarity-sapping liquid-crystal layer. The result is an unfathomably sharp display, delivering perfect black, white and vibrant colours, and an overall razor-sharp picture.

Reduce Eye Fatigue With Ocular Guard

You’ve probably heard about how the blue light emitted by screens can impact your sleep, but its harmful effects actually go much deeper than that.

Laboratory studies have found that too much blue light can contribute to age-related macular degeneration. Blue light penetrates all the way through to the retina, and excessive amounts of it are proven to be damaging to the light-sensitive cells in this part of the eye.

It’s scary stuff, not to mention one more reason not to beam memes directly at your eyeballs with your phone from three inches away before bedtime every night. However, LG aims to reduce the effects of harmful light on your eyes by deploying what it calls Ocular Guard across its range of cutting-edge OLED TVs.

Ocular Guard reduces eye strain by limiting the amount of blue light emitted. That means an OLED TV is easier on your precious peepers, leaving them less fatigued than they would be from staring at a regular screen.

See The Bigger Picture With Everywhere View

Whether it’s a family movie night, a pay-per-view boxing session with mates, or even testing out a PowerPoint presentation with colleagues from the office, when there are that many eyes sharing the same screen, someone’s not going to be seeing the clearest picture.

At least, that used to be the case. Now, LG’s OLED TV tech can provide all viewers with consistently high picture quality from wherever they’re sitting in the room. Well, provided they’re not sitting behind the TV, that is.

This breakthrough feature also spells good news for your home. A greater range of viewing angles means a greater range of options when it comes to crafting your space and laying out furniture. Remember, it’s supposed to be you who decides where the TV goes, not the other way around.

During Harrods Tech Month in October, special OLED zones are installed to let customers experience OLED’s future products firsthand and even purchase OLED TVs. Moreover, at gate 5, OLED TVs (including the transparent OLED) are showcased in the show windows to promulgate the excellence of OLED technology #itsOLEDorOLED
