The sight of a freshly unveiled Singer Porsche is always enough to make the heart, well, sing, as this latest example proves once again.
If you haven’t heard of Singer Vehicle Design before, the California outfit – started by Brit musician Rob Dickinson in 2008 – have made restoring and ‘reimagining’ air-cooled 994 Porsche 911s (1989-1994) to an eye-watering level of detail their specialism and their mission.
They are the gold standard of the burgeoning 'restomod' scene, where restoring and modifying vintage cars to a beautiful finish – and with modern technology, performance and reliability thrown in – is gaining in popularity.
"Everything is important" is the firm’s byline, and pretty much everything in each car is rebuilt, replaced or upgraded, including the revamped and powered up engine. The company has even been working with Williams F1 team on improving its engine design and build.
Customers choose between a Coupe or Targa, rear wheel drive or 4x4, and 300hp 3.8, 350hp 3.8 or 390hp 4.0 litre engine and then work with the firm on customising their dream machine down to every last seat perforation.
Around 150 of these exist and each one has the looks to cause whiplash in passers-by. Warning: you can lose a day looking at examples from the Singer back catalogue. But a good day nonetheless.
The 4.0 litre dark gunmetal Targa model pictured here was recently announced on Singer’s Facebook page, featuring nickel bumpers, ceramic exhaust, carbon fibre seats and an interior dominated by contrast orange leather, which also lines the front luggage compartment.
They don’t come cheap of course – best estimates on a starting price is around £400,000, (that’s once you’ve spent years on the waiting list too) – but given what goes in to each one and what comes out the other side, you can see why.
