A second feature-length Simpsons film is in development at 20th Century Fox, along with big-screen releases for Family Guy and Bob's Burgers.

The Wall Street Journal reported insiders as saying that Fox and Disney would partner for a slate of films including "a big-screen adaptation of the animated series Bob’s Burgers, a second Simpsons movie in development and a Family Guy film that would mix animation with live action".

Given that we're now a good 21 years on from the last inarguably flat-out brilliant season of The Simpsons, and that in the 11 years since the The Simpsons Movie we've borne witness to that one with Lady Gaga in it, the question of whether it'll be any good or not is a moot point. The 30th season is about to premiere in America this autumn, and The Simpsons became the longest-running scripted programme in American history when its 636th episode aired in late April.

The Wall Street Journal piece also suggests that after Fox is absorbed into Disney following last month's £71 billion merger, Fox's filmmaking arm, 20th Century Fox, could be "drastically downsized", but that films currently in the works wouldn't be affected.

There are a couple more years of episodes in production at the moment too, and, as CEO of Fox Dana Walden told USA Today this month, "there’s no consideration of not ordering more Simpsons". It's gonna keep on rockin' forever, forever, forever... forever.
