Hollywood is on a pretty good run of putting hot guys in space the last few years. After 2018 made Ryan Gosling the first man on the moon, 2019 will send Brad Pitt to the farthest reaches of space to save Earth from a mysterious force.

The first trailer for Ad Astra shows Brad Pitt as a humble astronaut, who survives an accident after some sort of bizarre solar flare. But it turns out to be something much worse, as he soon finds out that he must go on a mission to save the planet from the same malevolent entity that took his own father.

As the official synopsis reads:

Astronaut Roy McBride (Brad Pitt) travels to the outer edges of the solar system to find his missing father and unravel a mystery that threatens the survival of our planet. His journey will uncover secrets that challenge the nature of human existence and our place in the cosmos.

Beyond that, the details are scarce, although we do see quite a bit of action, including Pitt's character firing some sort of gun on a distant planet. The film also stars Liv Tyler as his wife, who, after Armageddon, has lost too many good men to space. Might we get another sexy Animal Cracker scene? The cast also includes Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, and Donald Sutherland.

Originally scheduled to be released in February, Ad Astra was pushed back to September 20 where it will be released by Disney under their newly acquired 20th Century Fox banner.
