After some impressive roles in the last few years, including this year’s critically-acclaimed Sorry to Bother You (due for a December UK release), Atlanta star Lakeith Stanfield’s profile continues to rise.
The 27-year-old actor, who also appeared in Get Out and Straight Outta Compton, has just signed up for Knives Out, director Rian Johnson’s first full-length project since Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
He'll be joined by Chris Evans, who alluded to his retirement as Marvel’s Captain America this week, and Bond actor Daniel Craig. They will reportedly play two detectives in a classic whodunit-style murder mystery, which was also written by Johnson.
With shooting expected to start soon, Knives Out is set to hit UK screens towards the end of next year. It's hard to know what to expect, as Johnson’s past work has given him experience in writing and directing a range of styles: 2008’s The Brothers Bloom was a light-hearted caper that bears absolutely no resemblance to 2012's Looper, the cerebral, mind-bending thriller that followed.
This won’t be the last you’ll hear of Stanfield this year. He is also set to star in the upcoming The Girl in the Spider’s Web, a soft-reboot sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. He plays the antagonist to Claire Foy’s character in the thriller, scheduled for release in November.
