By Bill Murray has quite unexpectedly come out of hibernation in the last few months with a string of new roles confirmed. This, though, is the most exciting yet: Murray and Sofia Coppola are getting back together to make their first film together since Lost In Translation in 2003.
Coppola's On The Rocks is, according to the Hollywood Reporter, set to follow a young mum played by Rashida Jones as she tries to catch up with her playboy dad, played by Murray.
Hijinks around New York reportedly ensue, possibly opening up multiple opportunities for Murray to do Roxy Music classics in the city's karaoke bars.
It'll also be the first of a wedge of films that Moonlight and Hereditary studio A24 is doing in partnership with Apple, though it's not clear yet whether they're slated to appear in cinemas or will just be on Apple's streaming platform, which is planned to launch in March this year.
Murray's been unusually keen to get involved in films lately: projects lined up for filming this year and next include Wes Anderson's next film The French Dispatch, a sequel to Zombieland and Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die.
Presumably he's got himself an agent and binned his previous method of screening job offers: an 800 number and a voicemail which was occasionally rummaged through. Ted Melfi, who worked with Murray on St Vincent, has said that he left endless messages for Murray before, out of the blue, he was invited to LA airport. There, he and Murray drove around for a bit, ate some cheeseburgers, and then Murray informed him that he'd take the role. On the promo tour for St Vincent, Murray went AWOL before being found to have wandered off to his friend's house to make waffles.
