By Christian Bale, the last man to play Batman who didn't look like he wanted to Thelma & Louise the Batmobile off a cliff throughout his tenure, has given two big Bat-thumbs up to Robert Pattinson's unveiling as the next Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeve's upcoming film.
"Good choice! He's interesting," Bale told Variety. "I'm sure he'll come up with something real interesting."
"Did you see the Safdie brothers movie he did?" Matt Damon asked Bale in the interview, referring to the extremely good heist-gone-wrong tale Good Time. "He was fantastic." He really was, Matt.
On the subject of what advice he'd give to Pattinson before sliding into the Batsuit, giving Jeremy Irons his P45 and starting to list the odds and ends Affleck's Batman left behind in the Batcave on Depop, Bale was clear.
"Oh, same as Ben - just be able to pee by yourself," Bale said. "You don't feel like a superhero when you aren't able to piss by yourself."
Bale and Damon were having a chat about their new motorsport-centric film Ford Vs Ferrari, for which he dropped a lot of weight following the 40lb he gained to play Dick Cheney in Vice - "these cars are not made for large men, at all, for comfort whatsoever" - and, according to reports, has located his own actual speaking voice for the first time on film in absolutely ages.
