Armando Iannucci's adaptation of David Copperfield was first announced back in 2015, but now it seems as though the ball is well and truly rolling.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-nominated (and Skins icon) Dev Patel has signed up for Iannucci's fresh take on the famous Charles Dickens novel.

The Personal History of David Copperfield will be written and directed by the Veep, The Thick of It and I'm Alan Partridge creator, so it's fair to say it's in excellent hands.

Co-written by Peep Show's Simon Blackwell, the David Copperfield remake (of sorts) was originally commissioned as part of BBC Films' 25-year anniversary plans.

Move along, The Muppet Christmas Carol – there's a new go-to Dickens adaptation around.

This is one of Dev Patel's first big castings since his award-winning turn in last year's Lion, but fortunately, it's not the only project he has in the pipeline.

Last year, it was reported that Dev and Ben Stiller are set to star in a movie about the legendary Chippendales male dance troupe, which has somehow been 20 years in the making.

"It's a true life Boogie Nights, a wild ride through the seamy underbelly where entertainment and criminality meet, during a period where the pendulum swung towards female sexuality," producer Gary Michael Walters explained back in July.
