In recent years Jonah Hill has made the transformation from bong-huffing jester in comedies to serious Hollywood actor with lauded performances in films such as Moneyball and recent sci-fi series Maniac. He's even turned his hand to making films with his directorial debut Mid90s released last week.

While his career is now hurtling towards accolades and acclaim, the actor has admitted to missing out on roles in the period after his string of comedy performances. One role he was particularly upset to miss out on was playing Napster co-founder and Facebook's first president, Sean Parker, in David Fincher's 2010 drama, The Social Network.

The Social Network is the one that I was actually like, years later, was like, ‘Fuck, like I’m so bummed,’” Hill said on The Bill Simmons Podcast.

“Low-key, David Fincher, or high-key, David Fincher didn’t want me in Social Network,” he revealed. “It was between me and Justin Timberlake for that part. Obviously [Fincher’s] the man, but he was not having me. The studio wanted me, I think, and then Justin Timberlake was amazing in it.”

Considering Timberlake's performance in The Social Network went largely unnoticed and was followed by a series of mediocre romantic comedies while Hill went on to earn two Oscar nominations for Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street respectively, he probably shouldn't be too sad.

"Leave it Jonah, you don't need them."
