Oh dear me. Oooh, deary, deary me. The trailer for The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep is here, and it's very creepy indeed. We're heading back to The Overlook Hotel, where things have apparently remained as utterly terrifying and one-star-Trip-Advisor-review as they were in Stanley Kubrick's original.

In this first teaser footage we see Danny Torrence is all grown up and apparently some kind of nurse now, but a nurse haunted by some mysterious chalkboard writing which - horror of horrors - suddenly turns into a reappearance of the REDRUM graffiti from his childhood.

There's another kid with the same spooky powers too, who presumably Danny's going to try to protect from all the messiness that made his youth so tricky. The old lady in the bath is back, the twins are back, the blood in the lift is back - it's all back! Back! Back!!!

Just as excitingly, there's a lot of filmmaking pedigree involved in this follow-up. Besides the presence of Ewan McGregor taking the role of the grown-up Danny Torrence - the little lad with the tricycle and Sue Barker haircut from the original film - and Rebecca Ferguson, it's going to be directed by Mike Flanagan, who also put together the critically lauded spooker The Haunting of Hill House and another Stephen King adaptation, Gerald's Game.

Doctor Sleep was originally slated for a January 2020 release, but it's been yanked forward a few months to roughly Halloween this year. That's not just canny marketing - it's right in the middle of the annual glut of awards-chasing releases, which feels like a big thumbs-up from Warner Bros. Exciting stuff.
