There was a lot of pressure on Matthew McConaughey following his 2014 Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

A critically acclaimed career uplift was widely hailed as a ‘McConaissance’ by the press, as we all celebrated his journey from schmaltzy rom-coms to Very Important Cinema.

But then the bombs fell. The Sea of Trees. Free State of Jones. Gold. The Dark Tower. The McConaissance was all but over – and what a relief. As the chillest man alive, you get the feeling that he was tired of chasing Academy approval, anyway.

Why? Because he signed up to star in an insane-sounding stoner comedy called Beach Bum with Snoop Dogg, of course.

According to IMDB, he’ll play ‘a rebellious stoner named Moondog' who 'lives life by his own rules'. Snoop, on the other hand, has been cast as seedy Southern gent Lingerie.

His impressive co-stars have top comedy pedigree, too: Zac Efron, Isla Fisher, Jonah Hill. Harmony Korine is attached to wrote and directed James Franco’s underrated Spring Breakers. Beach Bum is planned as the second-part of Korine's 'Florida Trilogy'.

We don’t know too much just yet, but a behind-the-scenes production shot has just been leaked by the director, showing a gurning, dishevelled McConaughey on a boat with Snoop.

Beach Bum is set for release later this year.
