• DB Weiss: "I'm hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it's like, 'Is that an A or an A+?"
  • Showrunners Weiss and David Benioff say fans "will not be let down"
  • Benioff plans to be extremely drunk and extremely not online during the finale

Rounding off a drama series which turned into a juggernaut - a kind of Westeros-Industrial Complex - is no easy task, but Game of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff are encouragingly certain that "the fans will not be let down" and have been looking to Breaking Bad for inspiration.

They've made their peace with the fact that somebody, somewhere in the deepest thickets of Reddit, will be angry because their theory about Old Nan being key to the survival of the Seven Kingdoms didn't get the air time it deserved.

"There is no version where everybody says, 'I have to admit, I agree with every other person on the planet that this is the perfect way to do this' - that's an impossible reality that doesn't exist," Weiss told Entertainment Weekly. "I'm hoping for the Breaking Bad [finale] argument where it's like, 'Is that an A or an A+?'"

That said, Benioff sounds a little less sanguine about the whole venture. "From the beginning we’ve talked about how the show would end," he said. "A good story isn’t a good story if you have a bad ending. Of course we worry."

So how and where does he plan to watch the finale? "I plan to be very drunk, and very far from the internet." Extremely sage advice for pretty much any major event there.
