Dave Bautista says that working with Disney in the wake of director James Gunn’s firing is “pretty nauseating”, and that he is only returning to the franchise because he is “obligated” to do so.

The Guardians of the Galaxy cast rallied around Gunn, who was sacked for a number of controversial old tweets, with an open letter last week, and Bautista made his feelings even clearer in a series of tweets on Sunday.

"I will do what I'm legally obligated to do but @Guardians without @JamesGunn is not what I signed up for," the actor wrote on social media. "GOTG w/o @JamesGunn just isn’t GOTG."

"It's also pretty nauseating to work for someone who’d empower a smear campaign by fascists #cybernazis," Bautista wrote. "That’s just how I feel."

Gunn came under fire after a series of jokes referencing pedophilia and molestation were brought to light by figures on the alt-right, including conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich.

It’s thought that Disney has no plans to re-instate the director, despite pressure from the cast, Hollywood figures and fans of the series
