Sean Gunn has revealed that his brother James Gunn's script is going to be used in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
James was fired from the sequel earlier this year after old tweets were uncovered in which he joked about paedophilia and rape years before he was hired by Disney to make the first Guardians of the Galaxy. He has publicly apologised, saying he's a "very, very different" person now and has "regretted [the jokes] for many years since".
Although James isn't returning to direct the next film in the franchise, his script – which he finished before he was fired – will stay put.
Speaking to Tulsa World, Sean – who plays Kraglin and serves as the on-set stand-in for Rocket – said: "I don't really know yet what's going on with Guardians 3. I know that Disney still wants to make the movie.
"I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that's up in the air."
Previously, Dave Bautista (Drax) threatened to quit the movie if Marvel doesn't use James' finished script.
It was later reported that Disney was indeed planning on using the same screenplay from James, although Disney, Marvel and reps for the director declined to comment.
After James was fired, the Guardians cast then released a joint statement standing behind him, with Chris Pratt saying that he'd "love to see him reinstated as director".
