Manchester United flop Henrikh Mkhitaryan was barely making the Old Trafford bench when the opportunity to sign for Arsenal arrived in January.

Boss Jose Mourinho had all but given up on the £30-million-pound midfielder, and a swap deal for wantaway Gunners star Alexis Sanchez worked out for everyone involved.

It was a surprise to everyone when Mourinho was magnanimous about the move, given his previous run-ins with the Armenian international. Mkhitaryan has not returned the favour.

When he first arrived in London, he criticised Mourinho’s defensive ethos. “Every offensive player wants to play offensive football,” he told ESPN. “it’s not easy to defend all the time.

Uncharacteristically, his former boss didn’t respond – so Mkhitaryan is going back for more.

Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine, the Gunners midfielder has goaded Mourinho about the move once again.

"When I heard I could swap Man United for Arsenal, I said, ‘Yes, I want to do that’, I didn’t think twice.”

"It’s important for me to play in an offensive team. I couldn’t have imagined a better start. I'd missed playing offensively.

"I joined Arsenal because Wenger wanted me, not because he wanted to replace Sanchez.

"We are different players and characters, with different abilities and skills, so I'll try my best to do everything for the club."
