Hereditary, the horror that has been dubbed "the most traumatically terrifying horror movie in ages" will be hitting UK cinemas on 15 June.

The film, by first-time writer and directer Ari Aster, caused a stir at Sundance film festival after the audience left the premiere saying it was "two breathless hours of escalating terror".

Rumours about the film, starring Toni Collette, Gabriel Byrne and Ann Dowd from The Handmaid’s Tale, have been spreading since.

It comes from A24 - the company behind Moonlight, The Witch, Lady Bird - and will drop a week earlier in the US on 8 June.

Safe to say, it's a somewhat unsettling look at the demons you could inherit from your parents, with the full synopsis reading: “When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.”

Or as the AV Club put it: "pure emotional terrorism”.
