Jessica Jones is back, and we should all be grateful. The Season 2 trailer for the best Marvel-Netflix series sees Krysten Ritter’s Jessica starting to put her life back together after killing her abuser, Kilgrave (David Tennant) in the Season 1 finale.

The new footage also hints that we'll see more expansion on Jessica's backstory in Season 2—specifically the "horrific experiments" conducted on her as a teenager after the death of her family—experiments which ultimately resulted in the superhuman strength she has now.

"Now known throughout the city as a super-powered killer, a new case makes her reluctantly confront who she really is while digging deeper into her past to explore the reasons why," Netflix's official synopsis says.

"We were made here—me, and something else," Jessica says, as the trailer shows her walking into a creepy-looking facility, suggesting that the experiments conducted on her were also conducted on the season's mysterious villain.

Other returning cast members alongside Ritter include Rachael Taylor as Jessica's adopted sister Trish Walker, Carrie-Anne Moss as lawyer Jeri Hogarth, and Eka Darville as her neighbour Malcolm. There's no sign in the trailer of Luke Cage (Mike Colter), who received his own show following his role in Season 1, but it's quite possible we get a sneak peek of Kilgrave—who may or may not really be dead—at the end of the teaser.

Here’s another reason to get very, very excited for the new season: showrunner Melissa Rosenberg announced last year that she had hired only female directors to direct the thirteen episodes of Season 2. Given the first season’s rich, skillful handling of sexual assault, domestic abuse, and the trauma that results from both, it’s not an exaggeration to say we have never needed this show more.

Plus, there's badass poster for the new season:
