Johnny Depp's upcoming Tupac and Notorious B.I.G. film City of Lies has been pulled a month before it was due to be released.

No official explanation has been given as to why Global Road Entertainment have decided not to go ahead with the film, though Depp has been involved with a string of recent controversies.

The Telegraph report that, "In July he was sued for allegedly punching a crew memberon set while finishing the Notorious BIG movie and worried Hollywood investors. This happened after an explosive Rolling Stone interview in June, which saw Depp admit to spending over $30,000 on wine and liking 'racist' jokes."

In City of Lies Depp plays Russell Poole, a Los Angeles Police Department detective who has been trying to solve the murders of Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur for years. He stars alongside Forest Whitaker who plays a journalist working with Poole on the cases.

It is based on non-fiction book LAbyrinth by Randall Sullivan, which explores the unexplained case of Biggie's death. In Sullivan's book he links the murders to evidence that suggests LAPD officers were working undercover for Death Row Records producer Suge Knight.
