When we sit in candle-lit bunkers and tell our children the tale of the demise of humanity, the chapter of Kanye running for president will probably seem inevitable in hindsight following Donald J Trump's rise from shouty man on The Apprentice to shouty man in the White House.

Yep, the American dream is alive and well, and the next person looking to shoulder the hopes and fears of millions for a few more Twitter likes is probably Kanye West.

West previously claimed he was running for office when speaking at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. “[...] Yes, as you probably could’ve guessed in this moment, I’ve decided in 2020 to run for president,” he said.

With his newly arrived third child, five upcoming albums and a book he's writing in real time on Twitter underway, West has clearly decided this quiet and retiring moment of his life is the time to kick-start his political career.

Posters have been popping up in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago with an image of the rapper and the slogan 'Keep America Great' and #KANYE2024 on them.

Though they are "reportedly" the work of anonymous street artists with no links to West, he did tweet an image of them which he quickly deleted and replaced with a subtle nod to the posters.

West is reportedly running as a Republican candidate and delaying so as to not run against his pal Donny. That is, if we get through the joy ride of the 2020 election which will likely include a face-off between fine political leaders The Rock and Oprah.

For as we all know and will pin to our profiles to hand down to our children like scripture: Twitter reach is a fine substitute for political acumen.
