Leeds United have unveiled a redesigned crest on Twitter, and it’s gone down disastrously with the club’s supporters.

The controversial badge, which is meant to celebrate the Elland Road club’s centenary in 2019, was supposedly the result of a consultation with 10,000 fans. It’s not yet known what team they supported, but our money’s on Bradford City.

Twitter users have poked fun at the amateurish new design, with many comparing it to a generic crest from the video game series Pro Evolution Soccer.

Some have even suggested that the heart-pounding pose that takes up the bulk of the badge has fascist undertones.

Even weirder still, the poor guy is aggressively covering the badge on his Leeds shirt, indicating that he’s just as embarrassed about the whole affair as everyone else is.

Angus Kinnear, Leeds United’s managing director, said of the under-fire decision: “Updating the crest is not a decision we have taken lightly, but we are proud to have a new crest that is authentic to Leeds United and honours the quality and loyalty of our fans.

"It is a symbol of ‘strength in unity’ and a proud expression of the club’s identity and history.”
