Leonardo DiCaprio is the surprising name behind an upcoming reboot of the eighties TV classic The Facts of Life, according to Deadline.

The news comes as fans mourn the passing of the original star of the show, Charlotte Rae, who died today at the age of 92.

The Facts of Life was a spin-off of Different Strokes, centred around the much-loved Drummond family housekeeper Edna Garrett.

She takes a job as a housemother at a gender-exclusive boarding academy, and becomes a mentor to a group of young girls.

The series was on screens from 1979 to 1988, making it the longest-running US TV show of the eighties, and dealt with issues such as sex, drug use and eating disorders. It was nominated for three Emmys over its nine years.

DiCaprio is joining forces with fellow Hollywood heavyweight Jessica Biel to co-produce the series through their respective production companies, Appian Way and Iron Ocean Films.

The recent glut of revived eighties classics shows no sign of slowing down, even if the Roseanne reboot didn’t exactly go to plan.
