You wouldn’t know it by listening to Jose Mourinho’s late-onset emo period, but Manchester United were the luckiest team in the Premier League last season.

So says a study conducted by ESPN, Intel and the University of Bath, who also found that Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side faced the worst luck.

They dropped 12 points due to wrongly disallowed goals and incorrect decisions on penalties and red cards, according to the BBC.

Mourinho’s under-fire Man Utd team gained six points due to similar incidents – though in the rectified table, Manchester City still reign supreme.

Brighton have reason to feel aggrieved – they would have finished six places higher and earned an extra £11.5 million in prize money. Even worse, Stoke would have been replaced by Huddersfield in the relegation zone.
