By While The Irishman is inching its way toward release, another collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro is in the works. Scorsese's period piece Killers of the Flower Moon, about murders, tussles over oil deposits in Oklahoma and the earliest days of the FBI, will reportedly see the two hook up again along with Leo DiCaprio.
According to Tulsa World, the local paper for the city of Tulsa in Oklahoma, Scorsese was in town to visit the principal chief of the Osage Nation, Geoffrey Standing Bear, about how the Native American administration could work with him on Killers of the Flower Moon.
The report says that Standing Bear told the reporter that this was the first meeting about the film Scorsese had been at, and that the director said De Niro was now involved in the film playing William Hale, a suspect for the deaths of many wealthy Osage Native Americans in the early 1920s.
De Niro and Scorsese's creative partnership goes way, way, way back to Mean Streets in 1973 and spans nine films if we're counting the slightly odd promo short The Audition, which plugged a chain of casinos in Macau. Personally, we're not.
The Audition was the first time De Niro and DiCaprio appeared on screen together directed by Scorsese, but they've also worked together once before in the 1993 film This Boy's Life.
