In the fallout of the Harvey Weinstein scandal last year it didn't take long before multiple allegations about actor Kevin Spacey came out. This caused Netflix to fire him from series House of Cards and go on without him for what they announced would be the final season.

The news that Claire Underwood, Spacey's on-screen wife who became President at the end of last season, would take the helm of the show felt like a just ending given the situation but Spacey's exit was bittersweet for cast of the show.

In a new interview with Variety Michael Kelly, who plays Frank Underwood's right hand man Doug Stamper, has discussed his feelings about losing a coworker and friend.

"It’s such a mixed bag of emotions because I was with that guy every single day," Kelly said when asked what it was like going back to set after the news broke. "To go back to the same stages, to the same sets, slightly altered with a new President obviously, but to go back to those sets and all of a sudden be with completely different people, it was a strange feeling. I don’t even know how to put it into words because you know one thing for so long and then all of a sudden it’s a completely different world you’re living in."

He added, "There’s obviously a million emotions that I went through, that I processed during this whole thing. I don’t want to talk too much about it because it was heartbreaking in so many ways."

Kelly admitted he had not spoken to Spacey since he had left the show adding, "I haven't formulated any opinion, and I haven’t talked publicly about it. This is the first thing I’ve ever said. I think I’m still going through a lot, processing the whole thing. It’s tough."
