• Microsoft could use the E3 expo to reveal two new consoles.
  • They are rumoured to be new versions of the Xbox One.
  • The Electronic Entertainment Expo runs from 14-19 June.

According to a report from French tech site JeuxVideo, Microsoft will announce two new consoles at E3 2019 in June.

While Sony has decided to skip the trade expo altogether, Microsoft will reportedly unveil the Xbox Lockhart and Xbox Anaconda.

The story, as reported by GameRadar, says that Lockhart will probably be a cheaper version of the Xbox One console with no disc tray, relying on the cloud-based download system to help keep costs to a minimum. The premium Anaconda model, on the other hand, will feature a disc tray alongside greater specs and power.

It looks like Microsoft are trying to squeeze everything they can out of the Xbox One before they move onto the Xbox Scarlett, their true next-generation console. JeuxVideo reports that the tech giants will look to release Scarlett at the end of 2020, not long after Sony’s rumoured PlayStation 5 release date. Halo Infinite is said to be the launch title.

The Xbox One still has a raft of AAA games on the way, including the next Gears of War, and it’s easy to understand why Microsoft would want to squeeze everything they can from its current console before moving on.

Still, the mystery surrounding Sony’s PlayStation 5 plans means that Microsoft will be wary of getting beaten to the punch. Rumours suggest that Sony could be working on a fully backwards compatible console, and some experts have even speculated that it will be here by Christmas 2019.

All of this stuff should be taken with a pinch of salt, obviously, but it's gearing up to a very exciting E3 expo indeed.
