preview for Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too trailer (Netflix/House of Tomorrow)

If you haven't assembled your viewing bunker yet, start preparing, as the fifth season of Black Mirror is coming to Netflix this Wednesday. 'Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too' is one of three stories joining the dark Netflix series created by Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones. Appearing in the episode is Miley Cyrus, who has teased some details about the episode in a new interview.

As well as confirming herself as a huge fan of the show - "Seen every episode of every season" - Cyrus spoke to The Guardian about how the episode explores the exploitation involved in being a pop-star.

"I think it’s an important story that needs to be told ... such a realistic take on what it’s like working in the music industry," she said. "It really portrays the overt exploitation of artists and that numbers usually eclipse the creative most of the time."

When asked whether the world of pop music in the episode felt familiar, she said, "Eerily so … yes. You can see it playing out in the media right now. There’s huge similarities with what we see in pop music today."

The singer became a teen idol at 14 years old after starring in Disney Channel series Hannah Montana. She has since had seven studio albums and moved into acting, but has admitted that the toll of being famous from so young has done "some damage to my psyche".

While these titbits make the episode sound like typically bleak Black Mirror fodder, 'Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too' won't be shrouded in total darkness and fear. Cyrus previously told Capital Breakfast that the story will have "more humour than usual". Speaking of the "romp-y tone" of the episode, Brooker has pointed out that the episode might "piss some people off".

preview for Black Mirror: Smithereens

While Black Mirror has often been labelled as anti-technology, the creators have been at pains to set the record straight. Speaking to The Guardian this weekend Annabel Jones commented that, "The stories are hopefully entertaining, very intimate stories about human failures and dilemmas."

The forthcoming season will tackle other struggles between humanity and technology, with Anthony Mackie starring 'Striking Vipers' looking at how technology hinders relationships. There's also 'Smithereens' which focuses on an Uber-style app, with Fleabag actor Andrew Scott playing an employee at a behemoth tech company.
