Give the people what they want.

By what they want, we mean a half-baked crime drama with a recognisable cast but spurious plot line. Give them Ben Affleck's middling 2016 film The Accountant, which it turns out was the most rented film on home entertainment platforms.

This year's Motion Picture Association of America annual report found that while titles such as Moana and Wonder Woman were big hits for home viewers, The Accountant took the top prize.

In the film, Affleck plays a number lovin' freelance accountant secretly working for dangerous criminal gangs while being pursued by a Treasury agent. Who said numbers couldn't be fun!

“Today’s home entertainment entertainment is exploding and there are no signs of slowing down,” MPAA chairman-CEO Charles Rivkin said of the report which for the first time included home entertainment streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime TV.

The Accountant is a strange choice perhaps, given the plethora of excellent films available to rent online. But the people have spoken. Give the people what they deserve: Ben Affleck.
