Did you watch Bird Box on Netflix and feel inspired to walk around blindfolded like Sandra Bullock's character? No? Good, because that would be a pretty stupid thing to do.

But a lot of people were! Enough that the streaming service has had to issue a 'don't try this at home' disclaimer to fans after some started attempting the 'Bird Box challenge'.

The challenge involves taking on everyday tasks blindfolded, which probably isn't entirely safe.

On their official Twitter account Netflix told fans: "Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE.

"We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes."

The post-apocalyptic horror film stars Sandra Bullock as Malorie, a woman who is struggling to survive with her two children after a mysterious force kills off most of the world's population.

Not much is known about the force, only that if you look at it, you will be driven mad and eventually take your own life. To live, Malorie has to take a dangerous journey with her two children – and she's going to have to do it blindfolded.

Within a week of landing on the streaming service the film already broke Netflix records after being seen by a massive 45 million viewers and counting.

The rest of the film's cast includes Moonlight's Trevante Rhodes, ABC Murders' John Malkovich, Australian actress Danielle Macdonald and Tom Hollander.

Bird Box is now available to watch on Netflix.
